Colorado Man Convicted of Kidnapping Housekeeper at Michael Bloomberg's Ranch
Jury Finds Defendant Guilty of False Imprisonment and Menacing
Victim Testifies to Being Held Against Her Will for Hours
A Colorado jury has convicted a man of kidnapping and menacing after he was accused of holding a housekeeper against her will at the ranch of former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
The defendant, 49-year-old Juan Calva, was found guilty of second-degree kidnapping and menacing with a weapon following a three-day trial.
According to the prosecution, Calva held the housekeeper captive in a bathroom at Bloomberg's ranch in Divide, Colorado, for several hours on August 29, 2022.
The victim testified that Calva threatened her with a knife and prevented her from leaving the bathroom.
Calva's defense attorney argued that the housekeeper was not actually held against her will and that she had consented to staying in the bathroom.
However, the jury rejected this argument and found Calva guilty of both charges.
Calva is scheduled to be sentenced on March 10, 2023.
He faces a maximum sentence of 12 years in prison for the kidnapping charge and up to 3 years in prison for the menacing charge.
