Tour de Suisse 2024: Yves Lampaert Wins Opening Time Trial
Belgian Sprinter Secures Stage 1 Victory
Lampert Edges Out Bissegger and Küng
Belgian cyclist Yves Lampaert has claimed the opening time trial of the 2024 Tour de Suisse, beating out Stefan Bissegger and Stefan Küng in a thrilling race against the clock.
The 48-kilometer time trial, which marked the start of the eight-day stage race, saw Lampaert emerge as the strongest rider on the day. The 33-year-old Soudal Quick-Step rider crossed the finish line in 52 minutes and 38 seconds, just ahead of Swiss rider Bissegger (EF Education-EasyPost) and Küng (Groupama-FDJ).
Küng, the reigning Swiss time trial champion, was considered a favorite to win the stage but finished third with a time of 52 minutes and 45 seconds. Despite an injury setback, Küng put up a strong performance but couldn't match Lampaert's pace.
